Grandmaster
Angel Cabales
Angel Cabales Serrada Advanced
Diploma #33 (of 67)
The Filipino martial arts are famous for quickly learned hand skills and reflexes. Simple yet effective, training begins with
the stick, unlike most systems that only teach weapons to advanced students.
Strikes are analyzed by angles, enabling one to counter any type of attack,
whether punch, kick or weapon. Emphasis
is on understanding principles of
movement, enabling practitioners to flow continuously through techniques
against any combination of attacks.
From
the weapon come empty-hand techniques, including the check hand and trapping
for inside fighting. Practical disarms
and joint locks are taught, which is why this art is sought by police and
military around the world.
Serrada
Escrima is
the fast moving short stick art developed by the late Grandmaster Angel Cabales,
who was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as the "Father of
Escrima in America". His students
include Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame recipients Dan Inosanto, Richard
Bustillo and Graciella Casillas.
Guro
Jeff Finder was privately trained and certified by Grandmaster Angel Cabales
and has been teaching since 1986. In
1989 he was a championship member of the U.S.A. National Escrima Team in
international competition in the Philippines and has since been judge and referee
at national and world tournaments. As
the only short-stick fighter in his competitions, he demonstrated the
effectiveness of Serrada.
